GOLDEN AGE CENTRE - continued Observing the memorial of the Phillips family of Lamberts (where the wind farm for generating electricity is to be located) who built the Chapel, our members were enthralled by the views of the east coast through the windows. From Boscobel the excursion returned the short distance to Portland and turned left to Farley Hill where the National Conservation Corporation honours them with free entrance and allows them to park near the tables and benches under the trees. An excellent lunch of salmon sandwiches, sausage rolls, biscuits and two kinds of cake with a soft drink was served by the Helpers. The physically able climbed to the top of Farley Hill and enjoyed the fabulous views. Members were delivered to their homes by two o'clock, and by 4.00 pm one of them had phoned his thanks for a splendid excursion. In a hectic world where stakes are so high the Church has little international influence but this "small excursion with great love" continues a Golden Age tradition over the last twenty years. Volunteers for driving, making sandwiches or a cake occasionally (once in six weeks or so) or willing to give a talk would be very welcome. |
